BBC Ticker

  • arif

I know you used to have a bbc ticker that fell out of fashion because it had a few problems and does not work well on XP ? How is this project going - surely this is a project that would fit perfectly in this model. I also think you could expand this concept to use screensavers as the bbc ticker and display stories and pictures. The screensaver bit is not too hard to write but would probably need your help to test it on xp as most of my dev is NT2K or Mac these days.

I downloaded the ticker software ages ago, and it doesn't seem to have been updated since then, although the news feeds are still up-to-date. The ticker is an excellent piece of kit, and would be even better in an updated form - mobile devices, more options for the user, etc.

An excellent idea - the ticker could use a revamp and could be made to include broadband content, for example.

The BBC Ticker is alive and well and still runs nicely on Windows XP.

The only small gripe I have is that you need to change the proxy settings in the ticker application, whereas it should really read them from the Windows settings directly.

The ticker in its current form is essentially obsolete. Now if it was rewritten to pull in whatever BBC (or other sources) content you wanted via RSS, you've got yourself a killer app.

I love the idea of a bbc news screensaver. I'm currently stuck for a good useful screensaver (sounds silly I know) but the having the headlines popping up would be a great idea and would cost any screen real estate
