Customized RSS/News Page

I think we should develop a way for people to customize the pages and rss feeds with search strings. The page/feed displays only what the user has selected.

I suppose we could store the search queries in a cookie instead of on a server. This is a very simple project which I might try to do. If you have seen the Google News customization you will see what I mean... but this is a little different.

I've seen this implemented on a couple of websites - notably an employment search engine (which allows you to get an RSS feed of jobs specified by your query string). It's not as wide-spread as it should be, though - I think it's a wonderful tool.

In the context of the BBC's content it'd be useful for things like programme alerts ("Neighbours OR Eastenders") or topic-based news bulletins.

Something very quickly thrown together to give an example of the BBC rss stuff all put into one dump and then searched for a keyword. Currently polls :

front page
business
entertainment
health
uk politics
tech
football

LImitless really, I will probably change this anyway as processesing the RSS with an XSLT formatter/search is probably a fast way than iterating each node! Probably time to see if XQuery has grown beyond its previous incarnation!

What actually could be a good idea is using information on what news the user looks at and suggest BBC Prime T.V shows that are related to content.

For example if I set my filters to show me content on accidents , hospitals , etc.
The page might suggest Casualty or Doctors as a T.V program I might enjoy.
