How about a widget on mac that based on an a set of user preferences can display topics of interest - weather/ stocks / news stories on a widget. If there is a pointer to how to gain acess to the API that the BBC exposes I reckon I could probably write it in a weekend. Afterall widgets are just hml and css pages.
Arif, i think thats a great idea i was thinking of a BBC news widget too but i havent the knowledge to deal with API's.
I am a graphic designer though so if you wanted someone to design your widget to fit with the BBC brand then let me know, i could provide you with HTML and CSS templates.
Arif - before Mac OS X 10.4 you can use something like 'Konfabulator' (http://www.konfabulator.com/downloads/) which has plenty of widgets - certainly has lots of RSS ones.
please - I want one - although I still need to install 10.4...

RSS reader widgets already exist - http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/dashboard/rssbean.html is the first generic one I found, but there are plenty of widgets that are tied to a single site. The list of BBC RSS feeds is at http://backstage.bbc.co.uk/data/Data .
