Learning English Grammer

There are so many dictionaries out there on the net - all giving you the meaning of a word.

My idea is to use the BBC data to show people how the word they search is used in conversation or writing. You can even group this by years to see how the meaning of the word has changed over time - context and grammer.

This will be a more useful service for people using dictionaries - e.g. I like the word, but how and where can I use it correctly.

I hope i finish my prototype in time ... I doubt it - just finished the dictionary ;)

You might want to work on the spelling first. Grammar has no "e"!

Hey there, that's a really good idea, good luck with that. Unless you're being ironic or "post-modern" or something however, you'll need to make sure you use a spell-checker before posting, because "grammer" [sic] should be "grammAr". Hope you appreciate the pedancy.

Grammer "Grammar" this was part of a plot to get the message/idea across. Thank you all for your comments anyway.

What I am waiting for is the search API from the BBC - once this is available, I will be able to finish the project.

BBC - don't stop now - any idea when the search API will be ready?

Mr V.S from India - Sorry I can't give you the dictionary just yet. We might end up releasing the entire project as GPL (Open Source) - it all depends on the team.

I suppose I'm rather poor at spellings. However,is there a superb way of making the most of my situation?

Mulenge Chileshe.
The dictionary can handle misspelt
words by offering you similar sounding words.

We are also toying around with using AJAX to help users with there spellings - so as you type your word, the system will automatically show you words that match what you type.

Better to explain by example:

Type A and the system will show you all words beginning with A, now type AC and the system will show you all words starting with AC - Ace, Accurate, etc

You can then select the correct word from the list.

Mr Gopal - "You want more details" about what?

Apologies to everyone testing the dictionary - its a bit slow because its running on a very old server.
