Backstage logo design competition: Terms and Conditions
1. This competition to design a logo for BBC backstage is open to UK residents only.
2. You must be 16 years old or over on the closing date (see section 9 below) to enter this competition.
3. To enter the competition, design a logo to be used on BBC backstage t-shirts and other merchandise. Design an image which you think incorporates the design brief set out in section 11 below. Upload your design to your own website or a hosting website and the BBC backstage team will link to it on the BBC backstage website. Or email your design to: info_backstage@bbc.co.uk
4. All designs must be submitted in gif, svg or png format, be in CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, key (black) or B/W (black and white) and should not include more than two block colours, the print resolution must be 300dpi on raster formats (gif/png), and the screen resolution should be 72dpi.
5. By submitting a design to this competition, you are granting the BBC a fully paid-up, sub-licensable, irrevocable, worldwide, exclusive licence until 30 November 2011 (the “Term”) to allow the BBC to use all intellectual property rights (“IPRs”) in and to your design for t-shirts and other merchandise for distribution to the public and participants at BBC backstage events, for promotional use, and for any other public service non-commercial purpose. If you are selected as a winner (see section 10), following the Term, ownership of all intellectual property rights in and to your design will revert to you and you hereby grant the BBC, a fully paid-up, sub-licensable, irrevocable, worldwide, non-exclusive licence in perpetuity to allow the BBC to use your design for public service non-commercial purposes. Please note that you will not receive any royalties if the BBC uses your design. If you are not selected as a winner, ownership of all IPRs in and to your design will revert to you following announcement of the winners.
6. Entries must be entirely your own original work and must not breach any copyright or third party rights. All entries must be suitable for publication on the BBC backstage website and public viewing. The design must not include any defamatory, offensive or unlawful content.
7. If you wish to enter this competition you must provide the BBC with your name and email address. The BBC will only use your personal details for the purposes of administering this competition and will not publish them or provide them to anyone without your permission. 8. Only one entry will be accepted per person. Entries cannot be returned so remember to keep a copy.
9. The deadline for receiving entries for the competition by any route is 5pm on Sunday 30th November 2008. Results will be announced on the BBC backstage website on Friday 5th December 2008. The BBC reserves the right to extend the competition deadline at its discretion. If there is a revision, the revised date will be published on the BBC backstage website and the date for announcing the results will be postponed accordingly.
10. The winner will be selected by a panel of judges. The judges will use a score sheet to mark the entries against the criteria in section 11 below and the winner will be whoever scores the highest score. In the event of a tie, the judges will have a tie-breaker score based on the most suitable design for reproduction. At the judges’ discretion, two additional winners may be chosen to receive a runners-up prize. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. The judges will not be influenced by any peer rating or comments on the BBC backstage website.
11. All entries will be judged on the following criteria:
A strong, imaginative design which:
• is modern
• embodies the spirit of backstage: geeky, open, fun and cool
• is simple and can be reproduced easily on print/TV/online
• is in CMYK or B/W and should not be more than two block colours
• is in 300dpi print resolution and in 72dpi screen resolution
12. Winners will be announced on the BBC backstage website.
13. The prize must be taken as stated and cannot be deferred or transferred. There will be no cash alternatives.
14. The first prize winner’s design will be printed onto a limited collection of approximately two thousand t-shirts and other merchandise which will be given out at events and used for promotional purposes. In the event that runners-up prizes are awarded, the runners-up prize winners’ designs will be used on special edition collections of approximately one hundred t-shirts of each design and will be given out as special prizes at events. All winners will receive a t-shirt with their design printed on it and a copy of any other merchandise the design has been used on. Please note that although the designs used will be printed from the original designs submitted, the BBC backstage team may change colours and size for the final design to best fit on the T-shirt.
15. The BBC does not accept any responsibility for late or lost entries due to the internet. Proof of sending is not proof of receipt.
16. Entrants must supply full details as required above, and comply with all rules to be eligible for the prize(s). No responsibility is accepted for ineligible entries or entries made fraudulently. Proof of age or eligibility may be required.
17. This competition is not open to employees or current contractors of the BBC, anyone involved in the running of the competition, or their direct family members.
18. The BBC reserves the right to cancel this competition at any stage, or change any of the rules or procedures if deemed necessary in its opinion, or if circumstances arise outside its control.
19. Entrants will be deemed to have accepted these rules and to agree to be bound by them when entering this competition.
20. This competition is administered by the BBC in line with the BBC's Code of Conduct for Competitions and Voting.
21. These rules are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
