The award-winning Sugar learning platform turns a computer into a fun, easy to use, social experience that promotes learning, creating, and collaborating. Originally designed for the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) project, Sugar provides browsing, word processing, rich media creation, presentation, programming, and other learning activities to elementary- and middle-school student in an easy-to-use, easy-to-maintain, customizable package. Sugar also comes with journal and portfolio components, allowing for teachers and parents to monitor student work. A school (or district) server stores and backs up student work.
Sugar on a Stick, a Live USB version of Sugar, will run on (almost) any computer, bringing new life to old equipment. Each student is provided with a preloaded USB memory stick, which they can simply insert into any computer, restart, and be immediately connected to their personal suite of collaborative, creative and Web 2.0 learning tools. Students have any time, any computer access to learning.
Sugar is free and open-source software, freely available to anyone who wants to use it.
