Posted : May 11, 2009 11:47 AMGame to improve spelling skills
Posted : May 11, 2009 11:40 AMAn idea to make a little game, that generates a line of symbols with crossed-out letters or/and just letters in front and end of each symbol. The goal of the game is to figure a sentence out of the symbol line.
For example:
You ve got a picture of a heart with a crossed-out H in front and an H at the end, this would mean earth.
I am digital artist, who can help with building a library of symbols and GUI design. I dont have any experience with programming.
I work with Blender, but I am flexible, as I can export or render the symbols (first as obj, second as images).
If some programmer likes this idea, please, contact me!
Cheers!
Sugar Learning Platform
Posted : April 28, 2009 10:29 AMThe award-winning Sugar learning platform turns a computer into a fun, easy to use, social experience that promotes learning, creating, and collaborating. Originally designed for the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) project, Sugar provides browsing, word processing, rich media creation, presentation, programming, and other learning activities to elementary- and middle-school student in an easy-to-use, easy-to-maintain, customizable package. Sugar also comes with journal and portfolio components, allowing for teachers and parents to monitor student work. A school (or district) server stores and backs up student work.
Sugar on a Stick, a Live USB version of Sugar, will run on (almost) any computer, bringing new life to old equipment. Each student is provided with a preloaded USB memory stick, which they can simply insert into any computer, restart, and be immediately connected to their personal suite of collaborative, creative and Web 2.0 learning tools. Students have any time, any computer access to learning.
Sugar is free and open-source software, freely available to anyone who wants to use it.

AR resources
Posted : April 20, 2009 3:13 PMSome years ago I developed some basic literacy resources using HitLAB NZ\'s ARToolkit. I would like to develop these further to include streaming video/animation, and also to create some Science curriculum resources as part of a transition project, involving cause and effect within AR

SimVillage
Posted : April 20, 2009 10:31 AMThis would be a SimVillage scenario that would enable students of KS3/KS4 Geography to design there own village and make clear decisions about where and what should be built. There don\'t appear to be any good sites thqat offer this. It would need to be a sustaianble viallge which would would gradually evolve through time.
It would teach a huge variety of skills and maybe students could build a small virtual world and be able to interact with fellow students in their class/school.
Skillset:
A computer programmer, a graphics designer

Calling all Developers...
Posted : February 18, 2009 2:18 PMI would like to add a new page to this BBC website. I would like to ask the Open Lab community a question which, they can respond to. For example: "What is Open Source?"
I was thinking the user could click on a page and you see a pack of blank multicoloured 'post it notes' - when you click on a new 'post it note' the user can add text - a short response to the question. The 'post it note' then gets stuck on a wall with all the other post it notes / responses from other users. Perhaps you can click and drag the post it notes around to re-arrange the order.
Please get in touch if you are interested in discussing the idea further,
Thanks Hannah (BBC Open Lab team)
